But what’s the source of that image or for the claim made there? AOC hasn’t specified the backlight technology used (aside from what they’re calling ‘Mini LED’) and you’d need to do a teardown, measure the spectrum or observe for KSF phosphor flickering or fringing during strobe backlight operation to work that out.
September 18, 2023 at 9:35 am #74259djkrisdeeIt’s from that Chinese review https://youtu.be/cAn9UIIFa3M?si=MN1HLPaoVWB3BIb9
September 18, 2023 at 9:52 am #74262PCM2Ah I see now. It was difficult to interpret initially as my Chinese is a bit rusty, but it looks like he literally tore down the Mini LED modules and found 4 QD layers. That’s cool. 🙂
September 18, 2023 at 10:11 am #74269djkrisdeeI don’t think is even possible to reach 96-98% P3 without QD?
The highest I’ve seen was 92-93% using KSF, like for example my Sony 55XH9505.September 18, 2023 at 10:19 am #74271PCM2Nano IPS is the best (or most cleverly marketed) example of technology using KSF, with 98% DCI-P3 specified. Plenty of WLED IPS models use KSF phosphors to reach ~95-96% as they have sufficient energy in the red region from the KSF phosphors. QD LED backlights are usually there to really push the green to cyan region as well and reach higher Adobe RGB (and Rec. 2020) coverage. VA models tend to go the QD route because it was heavily pushed by Samsung Display when they were involved in LCD panel manufacture, and CSOT (who followed on from their ‘recipes’ in many respects) continued the tradition. So QD is widely used by VA panel manufacturers, but it’s not required to achieve the sort of gamuts that many VA models aim for.
September 18, 2023 at 11:41 am #74275djkrisdeeAny idea when to expect AOC Q27G3XMN in UK?
September 18, 2023 at 11:42 am #74280PCM2I’m afraid not, it hasn’t been confirmed that it’s definitely going to be released by AOC Europe. I sincerely hope it is and will ask AOC about this again – can’t hurt.
September 19, 2023 at 9:14 am #74281djkrisdeeAcer Nitro XV275UP3 is now available from Amazon uk.
Unfortunately at £512 doesn’t look like good value.
Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q is £459.99 at the minute.November 1, 2023 at 4:31 pm #74931djkrisdeeI couldn’t resist the deal, AW3423DWF <£700.😊
November 1, 2023 at 4:31 pm #74938PCM2Hope you enjoy it, great price! 🙂
November 20, 2023 at 9:28 pm #75150PCM2Just to confirm that the AOC Q27G3XMN (Q27G3XMN/BK in Europe due to black stand) is being released in the UK December 2023 with a £350 MSRP. As it will be released by AOC Europe, we’ll be able to get a sample for review. 🙂
November 21, 2023 at 2:29 pm #75153djkrisdeeGood news, but why so expensive. Cost $250 in US. Just saying.😉
November 21, 2023 at 2:29 pm #75156PCM2Good value vs ridiculously good value? 😉
November 21, 2023 at 2:40 pm #75159djkrisdeeI don’t think I will ever go back to LCD, but still can’t wait to see your review of this model.
November 24, 2023 at 9:56 am #75162jbennett360Will keep an eye on this one I think!
November 28, 2023 at 11:09 am #75200slurmsmckenzieSorry if this has been mentioned on PCM already (had a look and did a search but couldn’t see it) – the RedMagic 5088 Partition (https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/red-magic-4k-gaming-monitor-announced-with-5088-zone-mini-led-backlight) looks interesting I think?
Nothing about global availability yet but maybe we could hope for more 27″ 4K monitors based on the same AU Optronics panel with a high number of dimming zones?
I am very happy with my LG 27GR95QE OLED but it is still good to see mini LED screens improving!
November 28, 2023 at 11:19 am #75204PCM2Indeed, hoping to see that model released globally or for the panel to be used in other models set for global release. I also hope they aren’t just being sneaky with marketing when they talk about “partitions”. Sometimes each dimming zone includes clusters of LEDs. And in Chinese marketing materials I’ve often seen reference to total LED number rather than the number of individually addressable zones.
Glad you’re still enjoying your LG! 🙂
December 8, 2023 at 1:38 pm #75243djkrisdeeCooler Master Tempest GP2711 with 27″ 1440p VA Panel and 576-zone Mini LED Backlight is out, but unfortunately it has terrible black smearing.
HDR is also unusable with this EOTF tracking:
December 8, 2023 at 1:42 pm #75247PCM2Yes, it is indeed disappointing. Full review on Monitors Unboxed for those wanting to view all the gory details. Based on TFT Central the review currently in early access (will also be looking at it soon myself), the AOC Q27G3XMN is much better tuned.
