The Dell P2414H, reviewed here and also featured in the recommendations section.
January 22, 2014 at 4:26 pm #27796thesharingHi again PCM,
I just installed the XL2411T, seems good but colors are washed etc.
Where can i find a guide to calibrate this? Or there is only calibrations for old non-PWM free one?
January 22, 2014 at 4:38 pm #27797thesharingOh nevermind found it.
What to say? color is so far better than ASUS, after calibration (software and hardware), seems perfect in color reproduction!
January 22, 2014 at 6:39 pm #27804PCM2I’m very glad you’re happy with the monitor. It is certainly the more capable monitor of the two. What settings are you using, out of interest?
January 25, 2014 at 5:18 pm #27847GAINESHELP PLEASE,
I AM 73 YEARS OLD AND SPEND A MINIMUM OF 8 HOURS PER DAY ON MY COMPUTER. MY EYES ARE BLURRED OUT AT THE END OF DAY AND IMPAIRS ME FOR EVEN WATCHING TV. I HAVE READ THE FORUM COMMENTS AND NEED AN ANSWER AS TO WHICH COMPUTER I SHOULD BUY TO ALLEVIATE THE STRAIN ON MY EYES. I CURRENTLY USE AN HP w2338h MONITOR AND PREFER THE LARGER SIZE. PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE ON A MONITOR TODAY IF POSSIBLE.January 25, 2014 at 7:30 pm #27848PCM2Hi Gaines and welcome,
I’m sorry to hear about your eye strain. If I remember correctly the HP W2338H is a glossy monitor so that could be causing some issues for you.
I’d recommend going for a monitor with similar size (you said you liked that size and I agree it’s a comfortable size), matte anti-glare screen surface, flicker-free backlight and a good brightness adjustment range (so you can have it nice and dim if you like).
The Dell P2414H ticks these boxes and has an attractive price tag as well. It might not be available from local stores but if you’re happy to buy online there is a link right at the bottom of the review I just linked to.
Hope this gives you a more comfortable viewing experience!
January 25, 2014 at 7:40 pm #27849GAINESI WOULD NOT MIND GOING TO A LARGER MONITOR–27″. WHAT IS THE BEST BRAND OF MONITOR ON THE MARKET AT THIS TIME? I WAS LOOKING AT THE TIME I RECEIVED YOUR RESPONSE AT THE BenQ GW2750HM. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS ONE? I WANT TO ORDER ONE TODAY, BUT WANT TO ASCERTAIN THE BEST I CAN GET FOR MY USAGE. I AM A CONTRACTOR THAT READS CONTRACT DOCS ON LINE MOST ALL DAY (ALONG WITH THE NEWS AND SPORTS ONLINE).
YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED.
THANKS IN ADVANCEJanuary 25, 2014 at 7:46 pm #27850GAINESTHANK YOU FOR YOUR RAPID RESPONSE. I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. I LITERALLY AM ONLINE 7 DAYS PER WEEK AND IN EXCESS OF 12 HOURS A LOT OF DAYS AND RARELY UNDER 6 HOURS ANY DAY.
HOPEFULLY A NEW COMPUTER WILL EASE THE STRAIN ON MY EYES. AT NIGHT WHEN I LEAVE MY COMPUTER I GO TO THE BEDROOM AND TRY TO WATCH TV. MY EYES ARE SO BLURRED I HAVE TO ASK MY WIFE TO CLARIFY WHO IS ON SCREEN. FACES ARE BLURRED.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. I ANXIOUSLY AWAIT YOUR FURTHER SUGGESTIONS.January 25, 2014 at 9:24 pm #27851PCM2Hi again Gaines,
The BenQ GW2750HM I wouldn’t recommend quite as highly because it doesn’t give you the same brightness adjustment range (doesn’t go as dim) and as far as I’m aware the American version doesn’t use a flicker-free backlight. I can’t really think of a 27″ model available in the US that is more suitable than the P2414H. I think you’ll find the 23.8″ screen a good size.
January 27, 2014 at 12:17 pm #27856gibbyI’m in a similar situation as Gaines regarding long hours in front of a monitor and experience eye strain. I’m a Mac user and recently moved to a 13″ MacBook Pro Retina and am researching 27″ 2560×1440 monitors. The Apple display is out because of the glossy screen. My primary applications are daytrading stocks where I’m looking at charts and numbers and photography. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks!
January 27, 2014 at 2:55 pm #27858PCM2Hi gibby,
As far as comfortable but capable 27″ 2560 x 1440 models I’d very highly recommend the BenQ BL2710PT. This is featured in the ‘recommended monitors‘ section primarily for its strong out of the box performance which lends itself well to photography. We’re actually reviewing this model now (I’m using it as I type this) and I’ve been really impressed by how comfortable it is to use. The backlight is ‘flicker-free’ like on the P2414H recommended to Gaines and it has a superb brightness adjustment range – it can go as low as 43 cd/m2 in its ‘Standard’ preset which is very dim indeed.
It also has a few other features which can be useful for maintaining good viewing comfort including an ‘Eye Protect’ ambient light sensor that will adjust the monitor brightness according to ambient lighting. It also has a good reading mode which will quickly knock down the colour temperature for more comfortable evening viewing. Finally it has a very light matte anti-glare screen (‘semi-glossy’) screen surface which handles glare effectively without introducing any graininess to the image. To me this is a good compromise which brings out clarity not far off the likes of the Apple Cinema Display without the mirror-like reflection.
January 27, 2014 at 11:30 pm #27866gibbyThank you!!
January 28, 2014 at 3:30 am #27869GAINESWOULD THE MONITOR YOU SUGGESTED TO GIBBY BE A GOOD ONE FOR ME ALSO?
January 28, 2014 at 8:39 am #27870dagdrivarenSorry but I have to ask, why the caps?
January 28, 2014 at 8:56 am #27871PCM2Not necessarily Gaines. It has a higher resolution and tighter pixel pitch so things are smaller and a bit more difficult to read. He was specifically looking for that high resolution. It’s also a lot more expensive.
January 28, 2014 at 3:43 pm #27875gibbyIs the Dell 28 Monitor, P2815Q at $700 another possibility?
January 28, 2014 at 4:07 pm #27882PCM2The Dell P2815Q wouldn’t be as good for your photography work as it uses a TN panel. It would give you lots of workspace, though. I’m not sure about the use of PWM on the backlight and whether it will be flicker free at this stage, either. It’s also limited to 30Hz at its native resolution which doesn’t really give a very nice experience on the desktop. Samsung’s upcoming 28″ 4K model may be worth considering but there are too many unknowns at this stage. What is known, though, is that the colour performance won’t match that of the BL2710PT.
January 28, 2014 at 4:38 pm #27883GAINESBTW–I KNOW IT INDICATES SHOUTING, BUT EVERYTHING I WRITE IS IN CAPS, SO DO YOU THINK I AM SHOUTING RIGHT OUT OF THE CHUTE.
BTW–I AM ALSO HARD OF HEARING–MAYBE THAT’S WHY I WRITE IN CAPS, BECAUSE ITS SHOUTING AND I CAN SEE(HEAR) IT BETTER.
THE CAPS ARE BECAUSE MY TIRED OLD FINGERS DO NOT WORK WELL WHEN SWITCHING FROM SMALL TO CAPS AND BACK.January 28, 2014 at 4:40 pm #27884GAINESBTW, THANKS FOR ASKING ABOUT THE CAPS. I PERSONALLY DO NOT SEE WHY EVERYONE HAS TO TAKE OFFENSE WHEN THEY SEE ALL CAPS.
SOME FOLKS HAVE HANDICAPS.January 28, 2014 at 4:42 pm #27885GAINESPCM2, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP. I HAVE ORDERED THE ONE YOU SUGGESTED AND IT WILL BE DELIVERED TOMORROW.
AGAIN THANKS, YOU WERE A GREAT HELP.
HOPE THE CAPS DON’T OFFEND YOU. - AuthorPosts
