Thanks for the quick reply. Any other recommendations other than the ones mentioned? p2414h is not currently available from amazon. I can wait though. Ones with display port or hdmi port. minidp to hdmi cable costs another 2500 INR.

For your uses the BenQ EW2440L may well be worth a shot given the price. In fact it’s arguably better suited than the IPS models for reading text or watching movies due to its superior contrast. Even if you factor in the cost of the MiniDP to HDMI converter it would come in at a fair bit less than even the P2414H. So I’d strongly consider that option.

Thanks. But surprisingly, I’m getting a good deal for p2414H. 12000INR. The BenQ one will also cost the same with the dp to hdmi cable. But, does the p2414h come with minidp to dp cable or dp to dp cable? Its not mentioned on the dell website. Its mentioned in the u2414h page that it comes with minidp to dp cable. I need a minidp to dp cable for my macbook air.

That does sound like a good deal. The reason the U2414H comes with a MiniDP-DP cable is that the monitor offers both DP and MiniDP and you can therefore use that cable to connect to either a device which uses either a DP or MiniDP (or Thunderbolt) port. The P2414H only includes a full size DP port and comes with a DP-DP cable.

              Hi PCM2! 🙂

I would like to thank you for all of your advice you’ve given to so many people on this forum.
Given your advice I have bought a couple of months ago the Benq EW2440L monitor and all my problems with eye strain are gone now. I was very amazed the difference it made 🙂
Before then I had had great problems with my old LCD screen.

Now I don’t know if I should write on this topic or even if I am permitted to write on this forum which is pcmonitors, info Because I have really serious question, what are good laptops, ‘good’ I mean with screens that don’t cause eye strain, as good as those monitors that you recommended.
As you can see, this is question about laptops and not pc monitor but still about screens. So please be patient with me 🙂

I am really thankful for your advices on this topic. I eagerly wait for your word on this, maybe could you provide some list of laptops, that would be easy on eyes in your opinion.

I really would like to know what are good screens in laptops, what would be the easiest on eyes in this case.

                Hi there djwPoland,

I’m really glad to hear that you’re happy with the EW2440L and that you’ve found the advice on the websites useful. Unfortunately I can’t advise on laptop screens. Not because I have anything against them being discussed here (that’s absolutely fine), but simply because I do not have the experience in that area to provide the advice you’re after. Hopefully somebody else could chime in if they have a laptop that they’re finding particularly comfortable on the eyes, but that’s all I can provide unfortunately.

                      Hello,

I just purchased an Acer B326HULAymiidphz via Amazon.de Warehouse Deals which was 30 % off. I had my eye on the BenQ BL3200PT for a long time now and the Acer should have the same panel, so I thought it would be a great deal.

Anyway, when I get the monitor I want to test it thoroughly to make sure everything works correctly. As I don’t have much experience with monitors I hoped you could point me to some good ressources on how to test the monitor.

I heard these models suffer from ghosting and flickering and sometimes clouding. What do I have to look out for?

80 % of the time I will use the monitor for programming or reading. I am not into gaming, but I do want to use it for watching movies and sports.

Thanks for your input and your informative website!

To be honest I wouldn’t spend too much time testing for specific faults. If things don’t become apparent during your normal use of the monitor, then it’s not really something I’d consider a problem. If you use specific tests to highlight these issues then it may sour you against the monitor uncecessarily. Some useful tests nonetheless:

                        1) Test for backlight bleed or clouding can be done by using Microsoft Paint. Fill the box in black using the fill tool and press ‘F11’. This should present a full screen of black.

                        2) This website is useful for checking dead or stuck pixels.

                        3) TestUFO is an excellent website to assess various aspects of motion performance. Everything is explained on there quite nicely. It’s the website we use in our reviews for the pursuit photographs.

Right, but as it might not be a totally new product I just want to perform some overall tests so that I don’t discover any errors too late to send it back.. Thank you very much!

Yeah that’s understandable. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the monitor.

Nobody in the US has the BenQ EW2440L, it is showing up as discontinued on a lot of sites. Is there a replacement for it?

                              PCM2

The BenQ GW2470H can be thought of as its replacement.

Thank you for that recommendation. It is certainly priced right however that in itself makes me ask what is better in this size monitor. I use my monitor mainly for web browsing and accounting type work, no games and no movies. I want something easy on my eyes. Any other recommendation to go with the 2470H?

                                  PCM2

I definitely think the GW2470H fits the bill very nicely. Depending on budget and lack of size constraints you might also want to consider higher resolution models such as those with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. In terms of eye comfort the likes of the Dell U2515H can be just as good as the 24″ VA models, although the pixel density being higher does mean some users would want to use scaling. I personally find them very comfortable to use without scaling, but everyone is different.

Hi! After some days with the Acer B326HULAymiidphz I just wanted to report that I am very pleased with the quality of the monitor. (I couldn’t find any defects like dead pixels.)

Especially when it comes to colors and static images it’s really great and definitely reduces my eye strain. So, for my use cases (programming, reading, surfing the web, graphics design) it seems to be perfect. Also, watching movies is quite ok.

The only real downside is the ghosting issue which is quite obvious (even for me), for instance when scrolling text. But I can definitely live with that. (There are also features missing, that I personally would have liked to see, for example rotating/swiveling and an audio out port.)

                                          Hello,

First of all thanks to the members of pcmonitors for all the help you give to us and second sorry for my English because I’m from a non-English speaking country.

I’ve been reading information of monitors and reviews since some weeks ago and I know more or less what I need 🙂
I need a monitor for web surfing, office and 99% of the time for reading.
I have very very serious problems of eye pain so I need the best monitor for the eyes, I don’t care about colour, image quality or anything.
This are the characteristics I want:

Resolution: 1920 x 1080 I think is the best for reading, I prefer big letters than big space for the desktop.
Panel: VA I Read in your comments that for reading is the best
Panel surface: Matte , but most of them are semi-glossy
                                          Backlight: PWM-free (flicker-free)
Technology: Low Blue Light configuration, I read in your reviews that with some preset modes or adjusting the configuration you can make a low-blue light configuration.
Size: Around 26”-27”-28”, I’m not very strictly about that.

I made a list of models I found with this characteristics:
                                          Benq GW2760HS
                                          Benq GW2870H
                                          Benq EW2750ZL

                                          Viewsonic VX2858SML
Viewsonic VA2855SMH (This 2 model have technology of “blue light filter” you can read it in the features of the seller http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/uk/products/lcd/VX2858Sml.php#pFeatures And think that it is more marketing because you can adjust other monitors with the same configuration)

                                          Samsung S27E390
                                          Samsung S27D390
                                          Samsung S27D590
But if I start searching in each company I found monitors with this characteristics, for example I found some Asus like the VX278Q and VX278H and I don’t know what is better with all the existing models.
For example some of the models are from 2013 and although they have eye-care technologies I don’t know if the modern models have an improved technology in this area.

So as you can read I only want the best monitor “for the eyes” my budget is around 200-350€
I hope you can help me because I have very serious problems and I need it
If you want the links for the models characteristic’s I put I can post it

                                          Thanks a lot!

                                            Hi Fermin,

It certainly seems you have done your research and have a decent idea of what you’re looking for. I would agree that in your case a 27″ Full HD VA model would be optimal. I feel that the strong contrast and fairly slack pixel density would help make text nice and bold and readable. I would discount the 28″ VA models because they use an inferior panel to the 27″ models. A similar InnoLux panel to that used on the Philips 285E5QHAD. I feel the responsiveness is actually poor enough for some transitions to cause you bother even on the desktop, whilst the screen surface would mean you’d have to be more strict with lighting.

All things considered, the EW2750ZL would be my choice over the others. It uses the newest panel, which isn’t in itself such a revelation for your uses but is a point of separation. I would also try to avoid models with glossy bezels (like the GW2750HS) as they too can cause distraction. And as I haven’t tested the VX278Q/H I can’t really confirm whether they would match the BenQ in areas such as minimum white luminance and gamma characteristics which can certainly affect the overall viewing comfort potential.
