For those who are interested, tftcentral has reviewed the Acer X32 FP, it is already available for members. Non-members have to wait 7-10 days.
I’m personally curious about the measured PQ curve and color gamut as they use Calman which gives a nice insight in these. And hopefully there will be something mentioned about the FALD issues.

Having spoken with Simon as he was reviewing it and answering a few questions for him, he was not impressed with the calibration of his unit including with the ‘sRGB’ setting (does show in the review). He also found the ‘Acer quirks’ that have been covered in this thread annoying and he hasn’t reviewed an Acer model for a while so wasn’t used to them or expecting them. Interestingly from the review it appears he had locked RGB controls in HDR, so he mustn’t have updated the firmware. Not that this would fix those ‘Acer quirks’ – and yes, ‘dark biasing’ was clear from the review data as you’d expect. I don’t want to spoil the review further in any way as it is members-only currently, would advise people read it when they can.

I understand, but very nice you’re already giving some usefull insights on the review. Indeed he had definitely not updated the firmware of his unit, but on the other hand as you’re mentioning it doesn’t solve or change anything regarding calibration, dark biasing or FALD flickering.

The calibration of the unit I had was still pretty good. If I’m not mistaken the following report from DisplayCAL is in sRGB mode: report

Yeah, your X32 FP and sblantipodi‘s seem much better calibrated than TFT Central’s. Will be interesting to see how my review sample fits in as well – should be a new unit with any luck. TFT Central’s unit was an older sample passed around and used at various events, so maybe it didn’t receive the proper calibration treatment or something.

I wonder if anyone else has seen the dynamic interlacing artifacts I saw on my X32FP? It was pretty obvious in blues and greens at 60Hz (from what I can recall). It could have just had a bad panel too, the store didn’t have another one for me to do an exchange so I ended up just returning it.

I’m going to get a third unit hoping to not see any bad pixels this time.

TFT central review doesn’t impressed me, I expected something more from a review like that. They didn’t upgraded the firmware, they didn’t mention about the Acer display widget quirks, HDR test is very basic, they talked about dark bias but they didn’t explored it enough.

Fingers crossed for the new X32 FP!

It’s a different style of review really, very ‘data-focused’. It’s quite different to my own reviewing style, which certainly includes plenty of data but also extremely thorough subjective testing. This also requires a lot more time with a monitor than most (or perhaps any) other reviewer will spend and the writeup and video documentation process is also massively extended as a result. Most reviewers won’t dig too much beyond what their data or instrumental readings are telling them, whereas I prefer using it like a ‘normal user’ and documenting those experiences. The downside to my approach is the small number of models I can cover in this way. 🙂

I prefer your approach, keep going this way.

this is the third monitor I receive with bad pixels, I don’t know if this is normal.
are there a possibility to receive a monitor without bad pixels?

returning them all, I don’t care, my money is good I want a good monitor.

Edit: I bought the fourth, if the fourth comes with bad pixels I’ll give up and buy another brand.

It is possible to get one without any pixel defects, but I’m not actually all that shocked or surprised by you having 3 monitors with pixel defects. And that’s not because it’s the X32 FP or an Acer, it’s just a sad and unfortunate reflection of so-called “quality control” on monitors these days. It shouldn’t be this way, but sadly it is. 🙁

                          Hi Everyone,

I came across this forum recently and I also post on hardocp. I am anxiously waiting for your review on this unit. Personally, I am debating if I should keep it or return it. The monitor is amazing for gaming. Adaptive dimming is broken IMO but that’s not the deal breaker for me. I am concerned about firmware updates from Acer. I think it is unlikely this monitor will ever do auto-HDR like other recent monitors for one.

                            Hi spiroh and welcome,

When you say Adaptive dimming is “broken” in your opinion, do you mean because of the heavy dark-biasing that is discussed in this thread? I agree that it’s unlikely Acer will change how the HDR activation works on the monitor, because it’s exactly the same as other Acer models in that respect with the annoying requirement of manual activation and deactivation.

I find it way too dark and it makes the mouse pointer look very dull and hard to find on the screen. The biggest issue is being able to see the halo effect when moving the mouse pointer on a black background. It just looks bad but I am aware that is a technology FALD issue and not an issue unique with the Acer.

Ah right. Yes, I always find local dimming solutions annoying on the desktop – even on models with a much greater dimming zone density. A small bright area like a mouse cursor will certainly be dimmed significantly with a dark-biased local dimming solution. 🙂

That’s why I prefer to disable local dimming on SDR contents.

Has anyone been able to compare this monitor with a Dell U3223QE for pure office work?

I have a U3223QE today, and I’m considering replacing it with a X32 FP so that it serves the needs of both work and gaming. I love how good the U3223QE looks for productivity-based tasks, and am hoping that the X32 FP looks just as good with local dimming disabled for SDR.

Yes, and that’s why not having auto-HDR is a real letdown. I don’t want to have an experience where I am always toggling things.

                                      PCM2

The U3223QE has a contrast ratio ~2000:1 vs. 1300:1 on the X32 FP. Both are ‘low glow’ panels, though I believe the Acer might have somewhat lower glow. How noticeable that contrast difference would be depends on your lighting environment and what you’re doing on the monitor, really, and frankly neither option is amazing in that respect. You should notice a massive difference in responsiveness on the Acer and I think it will capture a lot of what you enjoy about the Dell for productivity tasks. If you can afford to do so, the ideal thing would be to purchase the Acer before selling your Dell so you can compare for yourself.

Thanks PCM2 🙂 I only use the U3223QE for office tasks, coding, presentations, video calls etc. No colour accurate or media creation tasks.

I could definitely get a X32 FP and keep the Dell for a bit. My only worry is that if the X32 FP isn’t “the one”, then I really don’t have many other options for a 32″ 4K HDR monitor at a similar price point.

Dell has the G3223Q for sale. I’ve decided to buy one to compare to the Acer. I fully understand the panel is better on the Acer over the Dell but I want to compare if the Dell is good enough in my config without dealing with some of the issues on the Acer.
