Thanks for confirming that, I’ll be sure to update the review. The logic behind frequent re-calibration is that things shift over time, particularly white point as the phosphors and potentially diode of the backlight degrade. These shifts are not extreme and rapid so you don’t have to go crazy, but it doesn’t take too long to calibrate with a modern colorimeter. So I’d suggest just doing that every few months.

The perception of white can be affected by the spectrum of the backlight, colour temperature and screen surface. So there could be a few reasons you prefer the 276E8VJSB‘s whites over your older model.

We’ve just published a guide to photo and video editing monitors as well as a dedicated recommendations page. Some of the models discussed here feature there, some do not – this can change based on price and availability. Remember that it’s just a refined selection. I still stick by any models I’ve recommended in this thread. 🙂

Hey everyone, my first post here after a lot of reading. Does anyone have an opinion about the BenQ PD2705U?
I’ve been searching for a good monitor for a few weeks now, and this might be a good option.
I’m looking for a 27” 4K ’monitor with USB-C PD to use with my Macbook Pro 14” M1 pro with a budget of 700-800 euro/dollar. I’m a photographer, so I need good color accuracy, especially sRGB (AdobeRGB). And my work place is in my dining room, so I’m also looking for a monitor that looks at least not too ugly : )

So far I had my eyes on the LG 27UN880, but I can’t find too much about the color accuracy. And I’m reading here some doubts about its 32” big brother (LG 32UN880).

I liked the design of the BenQ PD2725U and it seems to get good reviews, but it’s above my budget. So I was happy to find the PD2705U with similar design but a friendlier price. Unfortunately I can’t find much about it, not even the display manufacturer. Anyone that could help me with more information about this monitor? (Or maybe has anything to say about the LG 27UN880?)

            Hi Basbas,

I’ve moved your post over to another thread as it could do with a bit of love and is a suitable place as well.

Could you clarify your requirements in terms of colour gamut? You said you require good sRGB colour accuracy but also mentioned AdobeRGB. The PD2705U doesn’t cover both colour spaces, it’s a standard gamut monitor which is optimised for strong sRGB accuracy. I’ve only received limited feedback on that model but it has actually been pretty positive feedback. Although mileage may vary (as I can attest with its slightly older WQHD brother the PD2705Q), it appears to be well calibrated with sRGB in mind. The user who provided feedback did have a colorimeter and confirmed good gamma tracking and it provided accurate output for their sRGB photography. Didn’t say much beyond that, but having used models with a similar design myself you should certainly find the monitor well built and “not too ugly”. Good use of coated metals, a weighty feel overall and nice smooth stand adjustments. I’ve received similar positive feedback about the PD3205U as well, though I appreciate you’re considering 27″ models instead.

I would also recommend the Dell S2722QC in terms of being solidly built and offering good post-calibrated image output within the sRGB colour space. You would need to profile the monitor with your own colorimeter or similar device, however. Though that would also yield the best results regardless of the model you go for. And even if calibration is perfect ‘out of the box’ (rarely the case, especially with respect to colour temperature or channel balance) things can drift over time so re-calibration is recommended, ideally.

Hey PCM2, thank you for moving my post to another thread and your amazingly quick and thorough reply. I come from a late 2012 27″ iMac, with a display that neither supported sRGB or AdobeRGB. Over time I got used to it not being 100% accurate, but since I’m upgrading I think it’s a good time to get a more accurate monitor. My prints are albums in sRGB color space, so AdobeRGB would be nice, but I don’t think it’s a necessity.

I didn’t look into the Dell S2722QC yet, it seems a good option with a cheaper price. That gives me extra budget for buying a colorimeter. I’ll definitely take it into consideration.

I’m looking at a 27″ monitor by the way, because my desk is only 75cm wide, so i.e. the PD3205U would only just fit. But I’ll look into that one too, seems like I’ve some more research to do 🙂
