      As title.
I probably asked it already but I haven’t understood it well so I’m here to ask it again 🙂

My Acer X32FP monitor supports up to 12bit RGB when using RGB on the Nvidia Control panel.

Should I use the default settings or should I set 12 bit RGB in the nvidia control panel?

Is it ok to use RGB or should YCBCR444 with a limited output dynamic range?

Does this change something when using a colorimeter during a screen calibration?

        Hi sblantipodi,

You want to stick to a Full Range RGB signal. YCbCr444 is generally handled relatively well by modern monitors and you might not realise it’s even set without checking. But it can impact subtle shade variety, more noticeably on some models or scenarios than others. Either way, there’s really no reason to select it over Full Range RGB for PC usage. As for the bit-depth, if you select ‘Use default colour settings’ then it will be using an 8-bit signal for SDR and 10-bit signal for HDR. This matches the vast majority of SDR content and HDR10 content (the ’10’ refers to 10-bit there), respectively. With that content you’re not going to notice a difference by manually selecting something higher.

There are a few exceptions such as if you specifically create content with software that supports a 10-bit or higher bit-depth. There are also a slim number of games that may use a slightly higher quality texture pack (according to anecdotal reports – I haven’t observed this myself) if a higher bit-depth is selected. The good news is you don’t really have to worry about this. Whilst you may or may not benefit from selecting a higher bit-depth than is used, there’s also no harm. The pipeline is all smart enough that 8-bit or 10-bit will be correctly used if 12-bit is selected, for example. And there’s no recordable latency penalty either or any other specific change to the experience, at least not when I’ve tested this out. There may be some models where there are issues with this due to ‘dodgy firmware’, but this is usually an obvious issue and it isn’t the case at all with the X32 FP.
