PCM2Our review of the Dell S2725QS is now live. This is a 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS model with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, alongside HDMI 2.1 and DP connectivity. The S2725QC is similar but trades the DisplayPort for USB connectivity (including USB-C with 65W PD). The monitor offered respectable image quality with decent contrast for an IPS panel (~1500 or a bit below, depending on settings), relatively strong colour consistency and viewing angle performance (even for an IPS model) and an intermediate gamut between sRGB and DCI-P3. The light to very light matte screen surface is also one some people will find quite agreeable.
The main weakness was the pixel responsiveness, which whilst significantly faster than many VA models simply can’t keep up with fast IPS gaming offerings. The optimal overdrive setting was also dependent on refresh rate, whether VRR was used or a static refresh rate was selected. Overall this is a very aggressively priced monitor that will work well for productivity with a bit of gaming on the side, but it doesn’t act as a dedicated 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD gaming monitor for those wanting the best motion clarity.
