PCM2Our review of the AOC AGON Pro AG326UZD2 is now live. This glossy ‘Penta Tandem’ QD-OLED benefits from the new Samsung Display ‘Quantum Black’ (AOC ‘Anti-Reflection 3.0’ or ‘DarkShield 3.0’) treatment. This made it easier to clean, with a noticeably less ‘grabby’ feeling than with traditional QD-OLEDs and also significantly improved (though didn’t entirely fix) the lightening up of dark shades in brighter room lighting. This is combined with a versatile 31.5″ @3840 x 2160 screen and 240Hz refresh rate, which is coupled with familiar QD-OLED image characteristics and exceptional responsiveness. SDR brightness was boosted up to ~300 nits with high stability, or ~500 nits if you don’t mind sacrificing the uniform brightness setting. HDR lacked a high peak brightness mode that was free from medium shade dimming in higher APL (Average Picture Level, bright dominant) scenes, with the ‘TrueBlack 500’ setting offering a nice fallback if you want a lower brightness but ‘well-calibrated’ experience with more pop than ‘TrueBlack 400’ would provide.
As I’ve seen with the other 3 AOC AGON QD-OLEDs I’ve reviewed, the gamut mapping was wonky under HDR and there was undercoverage of the intended gamut, meaning saturation was weaker than it should be under HDR. As a PC user you can improve though not fully offset this in an accurate way by boosting saturation via the ‘Windows HDR Calibration tool’. It’s not a dealbreaker for everyone and the monitor remains competitively priced in the select markets it’s currently available, with strong overall performance and feature set (including DP 2.1, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C plus KVM support).
