      Hello,
I am looking for an upgrade to my Philips 34M2C8600. I am well aware about the improvements to QD-OLED technology, and the fact that all monitors with the latest tech are 16:9. Is anything newer coming up? It feels like it isn’t, and I would really hate compromising on the aspect ratio.
There seems to be some movement on the WOLED side, but then, at display sizes larger than 34”, which is unfortunate.
On top of that, I don’t think there are any MiniLED ultrawide monitors worthy of switching to from OLED.

        Hi ufoman,

On the QD-OLED side I’m aware of improved brightness 32″ ‘4K’ UHD models (VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 rated, so similar to the brightness improvements seen on 500Hz QHD models like the MSI X50). I’m not aware of any ultrawide developments on the QD-OLED side, but perhaps they’re just keeping something quiet for CES. We’ll know either way shortly! I was always a bit disappointed that they haven’t updated that side of things since the very first generation QD-OLED panel, with a bump in refresh rate up to 240Hz being all they really changed for their ultrawide panels.

Thank you for your answer. Let’s hope something will finally appear at CES.
I’ve only seen three 34” 3440×1440 MiniLED models here (TCL 34R83Q, Lenovo Y34wz-30 and Philips Evnia 34M2C7600MV/, all equally unimpressive). I think even midrange MiniLED TVs beat them easily in all aspects, even responsiveness and input lag. So there’s not much hope coming from this tech either.

This flew under my radar until very recently, but apparently Samsung Display showcased an upcoming 360Hz 34″ QD-OLED panel at Computex 2025. There wasn’t much information about this, but they referred to it as a “Q+” (Quantum+ ?) model.

The HP HyperX OMEN OLED 34 (listed on this page ahead of CES 2026, but without a full product page yet) uses a 360Hz 34″ panel with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 support and what they call “V-Stripe Technology”. I believe this refers to a true RGB subpixel layout and is what Samsung referred to as “Q+” with their panel showcase.

Now that is truly something. It also seems that some of this information is out there elsewhere, so yeah – I think I finally have the upgrade I wanted 😀

A relevant press release from Samsung has just been issued in relation to V-Stripe QD-OLED panels. They mention 7 global manufacturers will use them, including; ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI (in addition to HP HyperX as noted earlier). They note a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, which exceeds the 1000 nits typically specified for QD-OLED and confirm the name does indeed refer to vertically aligned RGB subpixels to tackle fringing issues.

Yes. I have seen this already. I think it was worth to wait through the deluge of 16:9 models to get another ultrawide, but with RGB stripe on top of all the previous technological improvements.
Personally, I am totally fine with size and resolution staying as they were. Such size already covers my field of view well enough, and I’ve always been wary of increasing display resolution. It’s already hard enough to run the latest games as it is without a 5090…
