I would like to share my experience gaming on Sony 55XH9505 4K 1200nits FALD TV from 2020.
Most people probably thinking VA TV? It’s going to be black smearing fest, but this panel is actually faster than my Philips 288e2a 4k 60hz IPS monitor.UFO motion test, 60Hz
Colour space:I know it’s only 60hz, but still in my opinion sRGB looks on par with fast IPSs and better than the 288e2a.
P3 looks faster than the Neo G7!
And BT.2020 dark background close to Neo G7, but medium background definitely faster.Sorry for not the best quality of pursuit photography, but i used ÂĢ200 mobile phone.ðĪŠ
On top of that speed, HDR is actually mind blowing, and this TV only has 48 dimming zones, but Sony IMHO has the best FALD algorithms.
Here you can see FALD medium vs off in completely dark room.September 29, 2023 at 6:41 pm #74472PCM2That is indeed an impressive VA performance for those transitions, particularly with the gamut clamped to DCI-P3 even. It also outperforms the Philips 436M6VBPAB which was broadly considered a decent 60Hz VA performer back in 2018. It also achieved that speed partly through some odd subpixel shenanigans which went beyond just the usual BGR-related issues. Based on the RTINGS X950H review this one is also BGR and the subpixels appear quite squat which isn’t always great for text clarity, but I’m not sure if it would suffer additional fringing or ‘static dithering’ issues like the Philips does. Obviously a 55″ TV is mainly built for entertainment and to be viewed from a reasonable distance so it isn’t a big issue either way, just a curiosity.
September 29, 2023 at 8:41 pm #74478djkrisdeeI believe that “beyond just the usual BGR-related issues” it’s the problem with only 43 inch VA monitors and TVs.
I don’t know if it’s exactly the same fringing like in the Philips 436M6VBPAB, but Samsung 43QN90B also has some pixel inversion issues like the Gigabyte AORUS FV43U with a specific test pattern. There’s inversion with a red hue that affects the screen horizontally.
55XH9505 only have usual BGR issues, but again I’m not planning to display text on that thing with 100% scaling.
Unfortunately that TV doesn’t have HDMI 2.1, and I can’t even add 4k 120Hz 4:2:0 8bit in CRU. Only 1080p 120hz i available.
No VRR as well. Sony was always behind with PC features.
For example midrange Samsung 55RU8000 have freesync, and later in updates they’ve added VRR/Gsync on HDMI 1 port. Magicians.ð - AuthorPosts
