I’m looking for a 42-48 inch OLED to use primarily for PC gaming. I’m using a separate monitor for computing so this will be dedicated to HDR gaming and not desktop use.
I was looking at the LG 48GQ900 and 48 C2, as I’ve seen both on sale for less than $1,000 USD in the past.
I know the 48GQ900 has a more matte screen and a display port while the C2 is glossy, HDMI only, and obviously has some built in apps which is nice but not vital for my use.
Are there any other differences I should be aware of for PC gaming? Or any particular weaknesses with one or the other for use with a gaming PC?
I am also open to other options I have not considered.
March 15, 2023 at 7:50 am #70978PCM2I don’t really cover or for that matter spend much time researching 16:9 models that are larger than ~42″, because it becomes very niche for PC usage and until recently was purely into TV territory. The 42″ C2 OLED is certainly a model I recommend given its price, performance and features. I’ve compared it to the ASUS PG42UQ over in this thread.
The 48″ model is largely comparable except… Well… Larger. The main differences you’re likely to notice on the 48CQ900, you’ve already covered. I’m not aware of anything more intricate having scanned the RTINGS review. 48″ monitors are very much just re-purposed TVs and the C2 OLEDs work perfectly fine as large monitors with a different screen surface, no DP and some ‘Smart TV’ features you might not care for. Those ‘Smart TV’ and expanded wireless features are something Samsung is now shoving into some of their Odyssey monitors as well, to further blur the lines.

The screen will be across the room from a window but it doesn’t get direct sunlight, so I think either screen surface will be ok. I will just keep an eye out for sales. I am looking forward to seeing HDR games on an OLED.
