Hi
I was looking at 3840 x 1600 38” monitors and they mostly seem to be from 2020/21 eg Benq, Dell and LG.
Does anyone have any info on new 38” inch monitors due this year?
Thanks
February 18, 2023 at 6:56 pm #70532PCM2Hi nebar,
The likes of the BenQ EW3880R, ViewSonic VP3881a and LG 38WP85C – and higher refresh rate alternatives such as the Acer Predator X38 S – use the most recent ~38″ LG Display Nano IPS panels available. There are no new ~38″ 21:9 panels currently under development, as far as I’m aware. Interestingly enough the only model of this sort of size I’m aware of in the pipeline that uses a different panel is the ASUS PG38UQ (and variants) – and that’s actually a 16:9 model.
February 19, 2023 at 2:04 pm #70546nebarThank you for the information. As this will be for work (Coding), I think that comes down to the
BenQ EW3880R – eye friendly good speakers £949 Amazon affiliate – think I would have gone for this but it was recently at £832 on Amazon
LG 38WP85C – 75Hz, Reader mode £938 Amazon affiliate
Dell U3821DW – Good warranty not viable on Amazon ATM £865February 19, 2023 at 2:19 pm #70549PCM2I think you’d be quite happy with any of those options for your uses. Personally I like the overall package that the BenQ offers (it’s a model currently recommended for productivity). It has a particularly good minimum brightness, but its maximum brightness is quite limited. It will still allow most people to set it to their preferred level (usually sits between 100 and 200 cd/m²), but some prefer things either side of that so could be something to consider. The Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are particularly well-implemented and balanced and I find the OSD remote to be a nice addition. If you also get some use out of the speakers, that’s a nice bonus as well.
Having said that, I can also see the appeal of the 75Hz refresh rate of the 38WP85C. Even on the desktop the edge in ‘connected feel’ and slight perceived blur reduction can be appreciated. It’s not an extreme difference when comparing 60Hz and 75Hz and not as dramatic is comparing to a higher refresh rate option, but it can still be ‘nice to have’. Whilst LG doesn’t market the viewing comfort side of things as heavily as BenQ, it’s ‘flicker-free’, should provide a good brightness range for most people and shares the same panel so ticks many of the same boxes as the BenQ. It includes its own settings (‘Warm’ and ‘Reading’) for LBL purposes, but you might prefer to create your own LBL preset. See what we did with another LG model as an example when creating ‘Relaxing Evening Viewing’ settings and compare that to the ‘Reader’ and ‘Warm’ settings of the monitor. On some models the ‘Warm’ setting is actually warm enough to be be considered an LBL setting, I’m not sure if that applies to the 38WP85C, though.
February 19, 2023 at 6:38 pm #70550nebarThanks for all the additional details.
Just a heads up I received a notification when I added a reply to this thread but not for either of yours.
February 19, 2023 at 6:41 pm #70552PCM2The notification system has a mind of its own to be honest, much as I’ve tried I don’t seem to have any control over that. 🙂
February 19, 2023 at 6:57 pm #70553nebarIt must have heard you as I got a notification for that one. 😂
March 13, 2023 at 4:14 pm #70961PCM2A relevant update to this thread. LG Display have a 37.5″ ultrawide (3840 x 1600) IPS Black panel under development, which will offer enhanced contrast as usual compared to the existing IPS offerings. This will be a 60Hz panel, in-line with other IPS Black panels – it may include a slight overclock to 75Hz, but the technology in its current iteration doesn’t offer the pixel responsiveness to provide a good experience at significantly higher refresh rates than that. Unfortunately this information wasn’t available when I provided my initial post in this thread.
May 13, 2024 at 7:59 am #75923bamoHey everyone,
Hope you are all doing good. This is my first post after joining if there is any mistake please forgive me. I have been trapping for a new monitor lately, specifically a big one around 38 inches with a super clear resolution of 3840 x 1600. So far and I have seen a bunch from back in 2020 or 2021, like BenQ, Dell, and LG.
I am think about if there are any brand-new 38-inch monitors coming out this year (2024). Maybe there are some cool new features or improvements in picture quality that. I don’t want to miss out this.
If anyone knows anything about upcoming releases from big companies or even smaller ones, I’d love to hear about it. it will be appreciated Or if you know any websites where they talk a lot about new monitors, That would be great too.
I’m looking for a monitor with excellent resolution, a large screen for an immersive experience, and perhaps some cool extra features. So you any advice or suggestions you will give that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Can not wait to hear what you guys know about the latest and greatest in 38-inch monitors
May 13, 2024 at 7:59 am #75922bamoHey Nebar,
According to me You was looking monitors from a year or two ago. While those ones from BenQ, Dell, and LG are still good and you are wondering if there are any new ones coming out this year. We might not have all the details on what’s coming up in this year, but you can stay tuned to tech news and keep an eye out for announcements from companies.May 13, 2024 at 8:08 am #75928PCM2Bamo, I’ve merged your other thread with this one where my previous replies are still relevant.
Manufacturers have stepped away from ~38″ 3840 x 1600 panels at the moment and are focusing efforts elsewhere. This includes 39″ OLEDs which are in my view hamstrung by their 3440 x 1440 resolution and low pixel density, so I have very limited interest in as a reviewer for that reason let alone as a regular user. And 42″ ‘4K’ UHD screens, which are obviously rather different to use than a 38″ ultrawide. The IPS Black panel referred to above is used in for example the Dell U3824DW, but this is a 60Hz monitor (due to the panel) and not designed for gaming. ‘IPS Black’ has moved onto 120Hz panels, which aren’t super responsive (nor as responsive as the higher refresh 38″ panels used in the older models), but currently there are none of these in 38″ currently under development. The closest would be the Dell U4025QW which uses a 40″ 5120 x 2160 panel
