Unfortunately that’s the compromise you have to make with the IPS route, but in doing so you avoid the VA pitfalls of significantly slower pixel responses and inferior colour performance. You can improve perceived contrast to an extent with bias lighting, so placing lighting behind the monitor even if the room is otherwise dim. None of the IPS options offer significantly improved contrast except for ‘IPS Black’ options like the the Dell UltraSharp U3423WE which is more expensive and limited to 60Hz.

Looks like we finally have fast VA ultra wide monitor other than Samsung Odyssey.

Iiyama G-Master GB3467WQSU-B5 (affiliate link added by mod) is available from Amazon for £319

That is indeed very impressive for a budget VA offering. It’s unfortunate Iiyama don’t sell locally in most regions outside of Europe, including the US. It gives hope that some of the recent or upcoming VA ultrawides available from other manufacturers may also have made impressive progress in this department.

I think Iiyama used that panel before in GB3467WQSU-B1 version.

TotallydubbedHD tested that model in may 2022 and it had very similar performance.

Iiyama monitors are very solid, and have so many options in OSD for budget class monitors like this.
Overdrive has 5 levels, and the highest level is actually tunned perfectly for 165Hz with acceptable tiny bit of overshoot. Unfortunately this means high overshoot at lower refresh rates, but still you have options, and level 2 or 3 should probably work for 60Hz.
For example flat AOC VA monitors like AG275QXN, AG275QZN, and AG325QZN have nice single overdrive experience with Medium settings, but I feel like they could do better if we have more steps, and Strong settings is pretty much useless.

Yeah, I’ve fed back to AOC in the past that a sort of ‘High’ setting between ‘Medium’ and ‘Strong’ would be helpful. Though with some of their models ‘Strong’ provides a reasonable level of overshoot at the highest refresh rate anyway (e.g. CQ32G3SU).

All manufacturers should learn from Cooler Master Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q has “User” overdrive mode which gives you manual control 1-100!

Now I have to go to church Sunday morning and pray 🙏 for minimum backlight bleed.😝
I actually hate curve lcd monitors for that Batman like bleed, but couldn’t resist after I saw that UFO picture more less matching Neo G7 for only £319.

Have just reviewed the MSI MAG 345CQR, which is a steeply curved 180Hz option.
