Our review of the Philips Evnia 49M2C8900L is now live. This model provides immense horizontal screen space and immersion, with a 48.9″ 144Hz 5120 x 1440 (32:9) QD-OLED panel. The monitor offered the usual QD-OLED benefits including very generous coverage of DCI-P3 plus Adobe RGB, excellent colour consistency, exceptional contrast (best viewed in dimmer lighting) and visually instantaneous pixel responses without overshoot. The monitor has a ‘fresh’ (light-coloured) design and employs a genuinely useful ‘Ambiblow’ RGB LED lighting feature, a powerful and highly configurable lighting solution which distances itself from the usual gimmicks. The 30W sound system, USB-C (90W PD) and KVM functionality were also nice additions. My main criticism focused around the HDR calibration which could certainly have been more polished – though some people will still find this a compelling screen for both SDR and HDR. You get a lot of screen for your money – if you like the sound of it but would prefer a 240Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 support, consider the 49M2C8900 (without “L” at end).
