As many of you will know, we prefer to focus on the whole monitor rather than just the panels they’ll use. But the panels are a key component – we often draw attention to the panel used in a particular product as it should set certain expectations for other products that share that panel. TFT Central has performed their usual sleuthing and provided a nice article detailing some new and upcoming panels from major manufacturer AU Optronics (AUO). One of our fans on Twitter, who has a deep interest in monitor and panel technology (“gouki201”) has compiled the following tables to draw the data together in a nice visual way. The first table, below, shows the IPS (AHVA – Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle) models.

You can see a few key points of interest highlighted in a maroon shade. Quite a few models there offering a combination of high refresh rate, high resolution and enhanced HDR support. There are also quite a few models offering an extended colour space with 99% Adobe RGB colour gamut. These include the panels used in the likes of the Acer XB323U GX (M320DAN02.0) and ASUS PG32UQX (M320QAN02.6), which are really two extremes in terms of price, resolution and HDR level. But there are some interesting panels that sit some way between those in terms of capability and specifications. Most notably the M320QAN02.3 with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution, VESA DisplayHDR 600 and 16 dimming zones. A possible candidate for the ViewSonic XG320U, perhaps? The table below shows the VA (Vertical Alignment) options.

Several interesting models here as well, but not if you’re a fan of flat screens. You can see some 34″ models listed there, converging into Samsung’s space and a departure from the usual 35″ screen size that AUO usually goes for with their 3440 x 1440 UltraWides. The M340QVR01.5 with 100Hz and M340QVR01.6 with 165Hz refresh rate – and a 1000R (steep) curve. We’re also pleased to see AUO return to the 165Hz 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) game as they did a decent job back in the LG 32GK850G days with the M315DVR01 variant used there. There are two new 31.5″ options with 1000R curve (M315DVR01.A and M315QVR02.6) as well as a 240Hz variant (M315QVR02.7). 27″ versions are also listed, including 165Hz refresh rate plus 1000R curve (M270DVR01.6) or 1500R curve (M270DVR01.0). And a 240Hz variant with 1000R curve (M270DVR01.7) or 1500R curve (M270DVR01.2). Naturally, the 31.5″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) VA panel with 1000R is of great interest as well (M315QVR02.0).
