I am looking for a 3440 x 1440 pixels 34″ ultra wide monitor BUT it has to be ‘glossy’. The problem is that I can’t see how glossy is described in the technical spec of products. Can anyone give a recommendation please? Or even just indicate what I should be looking for in the tech spec to find glossy screens.
July 6, 2021 at 8:28 am #65341PCM2Hi CoolGreen,
I’m afraid there aren’t any glossy UltraWides available, 34″ 3440 x 1440 or otherwise. In fact there is a huge cratering hole when it comes to monitors with a glossy screen surface at the moment, they’re very few and far between. The default assumption with screen surface on monitors should be ‘matte’ – that’s almost always the case. Sometimes phrases such as ‘low haze’ or ‘anti-reflective’ rather than ‘anti-glare’ will be used by monitor manufacturers and that hints at a glossy or close to glossy screen surface.
The ‘lightest’ matte screen surface you’ll find on an UItraWide at the moment is for the ASUS VG34VQL1B, plus presumably others using the same CSOT panel such as the LG 34WP65C. It’s still a matte rather than glossy screen surface but is what I’d classify as ‘light to very light’ matte, so a slightly glassy quality in some lighting. The ASUS is discussed in various threads on the forum, with the general consensus being that it’s a very nice monitor in terms of contrast, having a pleasant screen surface (for matte) with decent colour reproduction. It’s quite fast for the panel type, but seems to work better with its tuning with AMD vs. Nvidia GPUs.
