Hey guys.
I’m looking for a good display, specifically have nice colors and will be pretty to look at. I don’t want any problematic technologies so I’m guessing VA/IPS is the ideal technology. 60hz is fine with me since I am on a budget a little bit. do you recommend I go 1440p?
The PC will be used for general office work.
March 31, 2019 at 7:04 am #53595PCM2Hi Markfanter,
I’ve merged your thread with this one as it’s a suitable place. I hope this didn’t cause too much confusion. For general office work on a budget the 2560 x 1440 resolution absolutely makes sense. The advantage over 1920 x 1080 is clear for productivity purposes. I don’t know anything about the local pricing for you or model selection indeed, but there are some recommendations in this thread and in the dedicated recommendations page.
April 23, 2019 at 6:57 am #54032fl-boffinPCM2: I ran across your comment (12-31-18 7:02 PM) while browsing through this thread. Your comment about the user who was viewing the monitor from an extreme angle (above) most of the time rang a bell with me. I notice the same thing with the 32H711, which I believe I alluded to in my mini-review of that monitor (I believe you have seen this as a PDF). If I stand in front of the monitor and look down, the picture is almost invisible–really ghosted over. I don’t recall noticing this effect with my previous Samsung monitor (a 32CF391 model), but I didn’t really look for it, either. The Sharp 32-inch TV that I used as a monitor prior to the CF391 model didn’t do that (I bought it back when $900 for the Sharp 1080P TV was cheap compared with what they were getting for 32-inch computer monitors at the time–2008–if they were even available back then). I thought perhaps this looking down at the screen effect was somehow an artifact of the so-called QLED technology Samsung was using with the H711 model. Is this effect common with most VA panels?
April 23, 2019 at 6:57 am #54036PCM2It is usual for VA models to have a point where they quite suddenly become significantly more hazy in appearance, yes. There’s usually a gradual shift (weaking of contrast) up to that point but then things become really flooded-looking. The exact point at which that occurs can vary between models, but it’s never anything to do with the backlight – rather the panel itself.
April 28, 2019 at 5:42 pm #54145makaveli-313Hello
I came across your website through youtube. My near 12 year old monitor died yesterday and I’m looking for a new one : ).
I would like to replace it either a 22″ or 24″ display. I play some games RPGs, MMOs and that’s about it, no fast paces shooters etc. and other than that Movies should look good.
As for other information I would indeed like an IPS panel, 60Hz and the resolution 1080p will be perfect. My budget would be about 150-200$ tops.Thank you for your time : )
April 28, 2019 at 5:47 pm #54148PCM2Hi makaveli-313,
I’ve merged your thread with this one as there are ongoing discussions here related to budget monitors. Some of the suggestions will be beyond your budget or not what you’re looking for, although some will be suitable.
There are a very large number of 22-24″ 60Hz IPS models to choose from and I can’t give you the technical lowdown on all of them. However I recommend considering the Dell S2419H, stands out due to the glossy screen surface. There are a huge number of mate screen alternatives to consider, but user feedback on the Dell P2419H has been very positive so that would be one I’d strongly consider as well.
April 29, 2019 at 6:48 am #54153makaveli-313Thanks for the alternative.
Having a look at both your Dell recommendations some differences aside from the glossy matte,-P has a 8ms and a 5ms(fast) response time listed whereas S as a singular 5ms.
It’s my understanding that for gaming response time is king, something you need to have as low as possible. Could you tell me what this ‘fast’ setting is? is it just a simple setting switch or will I harm the monitor in the long run If I buy this P model and set it to fast long-term.Aside from the above they look completely similar, I have a concern however…
Could you elaborate on the actual panel used and the Quality related? is P series above S series or is it the other way around. Thanks again : )
April 29, 2019 at 6:52 am #54158PCM2If you read our review of the S2419H, you’ll find out what this ‘Fast’ and indeed more useless ‘Super Fast’ setting is. The P2419H has exactly the same ‘Fast’ setting and has a specified 5ms grey to grey resposne time using it. I believe the specification for the S model would be using the ‘Fast’ setting as well. It’s just marketed differently. And you can ignore specified response times as they are utterly misleading rubbish.
The ‘S’ series are entertainment models and ‘P’ series professional. That affects how they are marketed and features such as ergonomic flexibility, not the panel quality.
April 29, 2019 at 11:00 am #54161makaveli-313I see…
So you’re saying the panel quality between P and S would be similar and only the U models rise above them.April 29, 2019 at 11:01 am #54163PCM2Not exactly, no. The ‘U’ series (UltraSharp) offer some advantages over the ‘P’ series in terms of having a greater array of ports and usually tighter factory calibration. Possibly a greater amount of flexibility in the OSD with a number of different calibrated presets, depending on the model. The panel quality is no different and in fact some ‘U’ series models use exactly the same panels as their ‘P’ series equivilents. There’s some crossover with the ‘S’ series as well.
April 29, 2019 at 11:37 am #54164makaveli-313I see..
Alright thanks a lot. I think I might just go ahead and purchase this model regardless of the on paper +3ms response time vs the S variant
If you have any affiliate link through amazon india I’d be glad to help you out there.April 29, 2019 at 11:38 am #54166PCM2I appreciate you wanting to support the website, although we don’t have any links or affiliate relationship with Amazon India. Your thoughts when you get your monitor (P2419H?) will be welcome, though.
May 8, 2019 at 7:25 am #54259makaveli-313I received my Dell P2419H almost a week ago now and as requested my feedback:
+ The colours are lovely. Perhaps it’s just me going from TN to IPS. I would like to mention that the ‘retina’ display on my 5 year old MBP looks better, although I have not calibrated the Dell yet.
+ The stand fit and finish are absolutely top-notch and not flimsly like my previous monitor or many ‘budget’ monitor stands I have seen, does not wobble. It has height adjustment, tilt, swivel and rotation. At this price point this is a luxury to have.
+ USB hub. It provides dual USB 2.0 at the back and dual 3.0 on the side. I did not think I would use it often but the convenience of having usb within arms length has me using this feature very often. Slightly moving chair towards PC case to insert a flash drive is clearly too much effort for me now : P
+ HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA but strangely no DVI.
+ This Professional series model comes with Dells ‘Premium Panel Exchange’ which allows you to exchange the monitor for a new one if as little as a single pixel is off.
+ Dell is known to have great after-sales service, locally(India) anyways.
– Packaged DP cable and USB upstream cable for the in-build hub but no HDMI cable nor a VGA one.
– VESA mounting not available.
I am very very satisfied with this purchase thus far. As mentioned I have yet to learn how to calibrate a monitor and I guess It will only look prettier afterwards.
May 8, 2019 at 7:30 am #54261PCM2Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I’m glad you’re liking the monitor overall. I’m not surprised you’re finding the MBP screen more impressive, it does after all have a significantly higher pixel density, a wider colour gamut and glossy screen surface.
One note – VESA mounting is available. You simply remove the included stand and remove the M4 x 10mm screws that are included there and voila – VESA holes. Dell models with fully adjustable stands always have VESA holes, without exception.
May 8, 2019 at 5:37 pm #54271makaveli-313ah! a wider colour gamut, glossy finish and more pixels in a smaller size make complete sense.
Well then there’s really not much to complain about if it has VESA as well.
Thanks again for the recommendation : )May 27, 2019 at 5:55 pm #54688thompsonHello, between the BenQ GW2480 and the LG 24MK600M, which is the best? They are both around the same price, 130-140€.
I currently own a LG 22MP58 but I want something bigger than 21,5″. I´m going to use it to watch movies, browsing the web and playing games (non competitive).
I know that the LG has Freesync, but I own a Nvidia 1060.Thank you.
May 27, 2019 at 5:59 pm #54690PCM2I have no experience with either model and no user experience to share with respect to the 24MK600M. However; I’ve received a little user feedback on the GW2480 and it has been largely negative. Complaints of poor calibration and a generally lacklustre image. I imagine the LG would be a better choice, or at least is unlikely to be worse.
For your uses you should also consider the BenQ GW2470H instead of the GW2480. Or if you wish to stick to having an IPS-type panel and are open to a glossy screen surface, consider the Dell SE2419H. This is similar to the S2419H we’ve reviewed but lacks one of the HDMI ports, 3.5mm audio output and speakers. It also has a black rather than silver stand base. It’s somewhat cheaper but uses the same panel and offers similar performance.
June 6, 2019 at 9:13 pm #54789libl88Hello @ PCM2!
Great website, your reviews really helped me.
I will post my question in this discussion because I think it fits the most:
So my old Viewsonic VX2370Smh-LED died recently and I need a new monitor. I really like that monitor, it was great for my needs! But now I can’t decide what model will be better for me. What I need: 23-24″ IPS display, budget is around 200$ (I think I can add another 100 if really needed). My daily use – 50% reading, 30% games 20% video. Can you recommend something? I saw recomemendations page but there was only one 24″ monitor there.June 6, 2019 at 9:19 pm #54792PCM2Hi libl88 and welcome,
I’m glad you’re finding the website useful.
As mentioned in this thread, there are a huge number of ~24″ models with IPS-type panels. And many of them are actually very similar and would offer a similar experience to your ViewSonic VX2370Smh-LED, overall. The Dell S2419H featured in the recommendations section stands out amongst most other options due to its glossy screen surface. But if you were happy with the matte screen surface of the ViewSonic, you’ve got many choices. Most of these I haven’t tested myself so there’s no way to give a technical comparison, but many of these models offer similar image performance and differ more in terms of aesthetics, ports and other external features. Based on user feedback and your budget, I’d recommend the Dell P2419H which offers strong all-round performance and good build quality & ergonomics for the price.
June 7, 2019 at 1:29 pm #54797libl88Awesome, thanks! I will check it out. Do you know something about Iiyama 24″ ProLite XUB2493HS-B1? I saw some good reviews about it
