jbennett360On the hunt for perfection still, I took a gamble on the BenQ PD2706QN – the uniformity technology sounded good.
Turns out, its a bit of a mixed bag!
With uniformity switched on, in the OSD. You can see it working, it does look fairly uniform – there were still a few bits that look a little off, but better than when it’s switched off. The only downside to having this switched on is that the contrast ratio takes a massive hit – roughly 620:1. When it’s turned off, the contrast ratio is roughly 1070:1
Accuracy out of the box is good too in the dedicated sRGB mode with a max delta e of just over 3. Colour temperature set to 6500k, is pretty much bang on at 6507k.
The custom user modes have a colour gamut clamp in there, so you can clamp to sRGB and have full access to everything else within the OSD Settings – but to be fair, the accuracy is already good enough, so a proper calibration didn’t really help that much!
The coating is really nice too actually. BenQ have their Nano matte coating which really does do well with reflections without comprising the image/display quality.
Think I’ll be looking at returning it. If the uniformity setting didn’t effect the Contrast Ratio then I think I’d have probably kept it. But with the Uniformity setting off, it’s not better than what I already have with the Gigabyte AD27QD.
Honestly think at this point I’ll give up and just carry on with what I have. It might be that I take a look at the RGB OLED’s once they appear.

PCM2Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the BenQ. Good to see you got on well with the screen surface and colour accuracy. I’ve never been a fan of aggressive Uniformity Compensation (UC) technologies which crush the contrast like that, it’s a shame the monitor didn’t perform better in that respect with the UC setting disabled.

jbennett360Yeah, massive shame. It’s like fixing one issue but then creating another!
Is there any truth at all in the rumours about panels and companies who get the ‘better ones’
Seen a few online say that BenQ tend to be at the bottom of the panel line, so don’t usually get the best ones?

PCM2Possibly. 😉 I’m not really privy to the inner workings of those things, so I can’t say for sure.

jbennett360AHH. Interesting.
I wonder who gets the pick of the best ones!
