I’m interested in the ASUS VG259QR and how it compares to the VG259Q. From what I could find, the only spec differences are that this new (alternate?) version goes up to 165hz, and 300 nits instead of 400, and is cheaper, but I’m wondering if there’s any info out there on how it actually compares in terms of color and response times.
And to add some context, and perhaps get some advice, the other monitors that I’m currently looking at and are available to me are the normal vg259q, and the AOC 24g2e, which apparently is just the 24g2 with a non-adjustable stand (I’d appreciate if anyone could actually confirm this), it is the one I’m leaning towards more since I can’t get the normal one and it’s a bit cheaper than the QR and 2/3rds the price of the vg259q.

I can confirm that the VG259QR is just the VG259Q with internal factory overclock to 165Hz, they’re both based around the same AUO AHVA panel. They use a different CELL (panel minus backlight) and the backlight element is different, with the peak luminance being reduced on the ‘QR’ as you noted. User feedback I’ve received on both models has been fairly mixed really, it doesn’t seem consistently well-calibrated and offers no gamma modes. There are some complaints that the sharpness algorithm for text seems a bit off, too. But I think that’s likely just that ‘VividPixel’ is enabled by default and should be disabled. And the gamma deviations, although not ideal, are not massive either.
The AOC 24G2E is indeed just a 24G2 with tilt-only stand. Make sure you’re aware of the panel swap that has recently occurred for that model and other 23.8″ models. I’d recommend considering the EX2510 over the VG259Q(R) based on user feedback and my experience with the slightly larger EX2710, incidentally. But if you’re happy with the pricing of the 24G2E and everything else about it then maybe give that one a go – you might really enjoy the experience.

The EX2510 looks good and costs the same as the VG259Q so if I decide to spend that much I’d definitely get that one.
Right now the VG259QR is looking just a bit tempting, since the 24G2E is only slightly cheaper for me and doesn’t have an ergonomic stand, but it should probably still be a better experience anyway right? It’s so unfortunate that the normal 24g2 is not available in my country.
I’m aware of the possibility of the different panel and I’m ok with it since I play val/cs.
April 15, 2021 at 7:06 am #64213PCM2I think that’s a fair assessment, yes. Given the pricing and availability the VG259QR certainly looks to be an an attractive proposition, but so does the 24G2E. I think you’re likely to enjoy either model for your uses and adapt to any problems you might initially have with them. I’d welcome any feedback on whichever model you do go for.
