sblantipodiLet’s create this thread to share some thoughts about the
Asus ROG PG32UCDM QD-OLED 240Hz.I hope that other PG32UCDM users will jump in.
I bought the original PG32UCDM in the past and returned it because I wasn’t ready for the low brightness experience compared to my MiniLED.
But now I am and this time I bought the PG32UCDMR.The PG32UCDMR is the updated version with the new OLED Care features, the built-in sensor, and a DP 2.1 port.
My first impression after calibrating the monitor with my X-Rite i1 colorimeter is that the gray tones are quite off.
Once calibrated, it feels like the gray tones become much brighter.Enbling the ICC profile it’s like enabling shadow boost on the OSD.
Isn’t OLED supposed to be accurate with gray tones even without calibration? O_o
Is this normal?November 13, 2025 at 1:23 pm #77498
sblantipodiI add another question.
Does it have sense to calibrate a calibrated monitor like the PG32UCDMR that is factory calibrated with professional tools that should be surely better than my Xrite i1 Display Pro colorimeter?I know that calibrations tends to deviate with time but on OLEDs the deviation with time seems less important…

PCM2Just wanted to share some quick thoughts on this (not near my PC so nothing super detailed). In my experience gamma calibration can be pretty variable on OLEDs regardless of how tightly the manufacturer may have claimed to have calibrated the screen. There’s also some drift as the panel warms up and depending on the brightness setting and refresh rate used. This can be more significant on some models than others – and I find is usually more pronounced on WOLED than QD-OLED, but still affects both.
There can be a degree of drift in colour channel balance over time on OLEDs and as the panel warms up there can be significant drift on QD-OLEDs. So I do ultimately think it’s worth calibrating and recalibrating over time once you’ve set the monitor up to your liking, even with a consumer-grade colorimeter.

sblantipodithanks for the answer Adam and enjoy your well deserved holidays 🙂
regarding the gamma, I’m used to calibrated my monitor with DisplayCAL and I usually use the RGB Tone Curve but I’m not sure if that tone curve is good for this OLED.
It raises gray tones by a wide margin. If I use the gamma 2.2 tone curve instead, the calibration affects grey tones much less…
What tone curve do you suggest for QD-OLEDs?
Please don’t answer until your holidays is off, I don’t want to bother when you are on holidays 🙂

PCM2It’s always personal preference when it comes to targeting linear ‘2.2’ gamma or ‘sRGB’ gamma. But I agree that OLEDs can make the uplifted look for dark shades of sRGB gamma very obvious and I prefer ‘2.2’.

sblantipodi@PCM2 do you know if you will receive the PG32UCDM3 for a review? I really hope so.

PCM2I’ve requested a sample, but can’t promise anything.
