Light shade uniformity was raised as an issue in the review. It was better (but not perfect) on our 24G2SP(U) sample. There are no guarantees with that sort of thing and it varies between units. Because of the wide gamut, such tints can be more noticeable – they aren’t uncommon on monitors in general, though the 24G2(U) does seem quite prone to this sort of thing. If it is fairly minor (I appreciate it’s difficult to capture in photos) then I’d recommend you just accept it and try to enjoy the monitor.
October 8, 2022 at 5:00 pm #69599zatarczI have to ask. According to the review, the difference in color consistency with 24g2spu should be significantly better or unnoticeable. It is so? It bothers me a lot with 24g2u and I see the difference almost everywhere when I know about it. I’m considering paying the extra $40 for the 24G2SPU and returning the 24G2U while I can.
🙁October 8, 2022 at 5:08 pm #69603PCM2It was definitely noticeable and to me noteworthy, which is why I was able to and decided to comment on the improvement in that area in the 24G2SP(U) review. The overall uniformity of the 24G2(U) I looked at wasn’t helped by the fact it had some significant uniformity issues, worse than on the 24G2SP(U) I tested. But even looking past those uniformity issues I certainly feel the new panel has improved in that area. So yes, it might be worth giving the 24G2SPU a try even with the $40 premium.
October 16, 2022 at 3:04 pm #69668zatarczHi. 24G2SPU cannot be bought here in the Czech Republic (there are always only a few pieces and they are sold out immediately). Should I wait or is there a good alternative of another monitor for $220?
October 16, 2022 at 3:06 pm #69670PCM2The 24G2SPAE, which as covered earlier is just the 24G2SPU with more limited stand ergonomics and lack of USB ports.
October 17, 2022 at 10:00 am #69671zatarczIt’s terrible, but 24G2SPAE is unavailable. The 24G2SPU is the last piece (in the only store, I have it ordered), but already for $220, which is already $60 more compared to the 24G2U and I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore :-(.
That’s why I’m also thinking about alternatives:
Gigabyte G24F $210 (coils whistle on some pieces, I prefer not, I hate coil whistling).
MSI G241 $160 (great price, older model, panel probably the same as the 24G2U, the question is whether to risk it so that it does not have the same defect as the 24G2U that I returned).
LG 24GN650-B.AEU $195 (good price, new on the market, great parameters, but no reviews)LG looks pretty interesting to me, but it’s hard to advise here.
October 17, 2022 at 10:05 am #69674PCM2The problem here is that, as far as I’m aware, the MSI G241 and LG 24GN650 are based around BOE panels that are similar to the panel temporarily used on the 24G2(U), which most people want to avoid. The Gigabyte G24F is a more interesting option and here is a relevant thread. My advice would simply be to wait for one of the AOC models to become available, they’re simply unique and the only ones that should tick the original things you were looking for.
October 17, 2022 at 11:17 am #69675zatarczThank you.
I understand. So I better accept the higher price of AOC and I have to hope that it won’t have a problem with different light shades like the 24G2U.
I want to use G-sync, my achieved frame rate in games is from 50-100fps depending on the title (of course it would be possible to go to 150fps when reducing the details), what refresh rate and what overdrive should I best set the monitor to? Just set 165Hz and overdrive to weak, will it be ok?October 17, 2022 at 11:19 am #69677PCM2That would be my recommendation, yes.
