Our review of the AOC AGON PRO AG346UCD is now live. This is a 34″ 3440 x 1440 ultrawide QD-OLED with glossy screen and 175Hz refresh rate. The monitor was well calibrated with respect to gamma under SDR, using our ‘Test Settings’ at least (full native gamut of display). The sRGB and indeed DCI-P3 emulation settings were a bit wonky on my unit, but still clamped the gamut fairly well and reduced saturation compared to native. The usual strong QD-OLED contrast and colour characteristics were observed. Under HDR the monitor had an issue with its gamut not being used correctly, as I’ve seen on other AGON OLEDs. This produced undersaturation which could be addressed quite effectively using the Windows HDR Calibration tool, at least. Not useful if you’re not using the screen with a Windows PC, of course. The monitor represented dark shades well under HDR and provided good bright highlights – the usual QD-OLED ‘dimming of medium shades’ was observed using the HDR 1000 style setting.

A brief comparison was drawn with the Philips Evnia 34M2C8600, which I’ve recommended for a while. As with the AOC it’s (in some regions) a relatively affordable QD-OLED ultrawide. The Philips has a different design with marbled plastic stand base and generally light colour scheme, brighter ambient lighting and USB-C connectivity plus KVM. It doesn’t have the gamut issue of the AOC under HDR. In favour of the AOC you’ve got a coated metal stand base, 2 x 8W speakers (vs. 2 x 5W speakers on the Philips) and better PQ EOTF tracking under HDR. I think both models will provide an enjoyable experience for most people, despite a few quirks.
