Thanks for sharing your initial impressions on the M32U, glad you’re enjoying it so far. And it’s good that your second unit didn’t suffer the same trauma as the first. π
March 8, 2022 at 5:48 pm #67789dave5634One thing that’s bugging me, though: There is no quick key for accessing brightness settings, right? I always have to go to the main menu and do 6 clicks with the joystick until I can access the brightness?
And I somehow miss the BI+ feature from BenQ π
March 8, 2022 at 5:57 pm #67791PCM2If you move the joystick either up, down, left or right without entering the main menu on Gigabyte monitors like the M32U you can access ‘QuickSwitch’ functions. You can assign these to various things including brightness – you can configure the ‘Quick Switch’ settings in the ‘System’ section of OSD.
March 8, 2022 at 6:49 pm #67792dave5634Nice, thank you!
March 9, 2022 at 7:58 am #67796dave5634Another thing I recognize and donβt remember from previous monitors: the M32U gets noticably (and unusually) hot in the corners. But only in the corners of the display. Probably because of its display technology? Or is that a general topic with displays of this size?
March 9, 2022 at 8:02 am #67801PCM2It’s not particularly unusual for a monitor to get rather warm peripherally, particularly if used at a high brightness. It isn’t specific to the screen size, though that does drive up power requirements and the M32U has an internal power converter (the EX2710Q for example, does not – it has a ‘power brick’). Are you using HDR or running at high brightness under SDR when making these observations? It shouldn’t come close to burning your skin if you briefly touch it in those regions regardless, but for it to feel warm or even very warm is quite normal.
March 9, 2022 at 11:54 am #67802dave5634I’m not using HDR but the “Reader” Preset for working in Windows. And I always have the brightness at moderate or low levels, between 0 (night time) and 50 percent. It’s just something I recognized and is different to my previous displays, not as hot as that it would worry me.
Another thing I noticed: When I shutdown Windows and the M32U is still on, it kind of goes into “Standby Limbo”. The LED on the right bottom then blinks constantly and I cannot “Power Off” anymore in this state, the main menu which usually appears when clicking the Joystick does not appear when the display is in this state.
I can then only select another Input, but there is no signal on any input….and then the M32U keeps on blinking with the white LED until I turn on a video source again, for example turning on my PC again.
Do you know how to handle this case?
March 9, 2022 at 11:55 am #67805PCM2If you hold the joystick in for a few seconds it should turn the screen off.
March 11, 2022 at 4:10 pm #67817dave5634Thank you, that worked perfectly.
Some updated impressions: I did some further direct comparisons to the BenQ EX2710Q after getting used to the M32U for a few days now.
The M32U is definitely much easier on the eyes when reading text for a long time, text is sharper and looks more natural. That is very good.
Response time is also very very good, the UFO Test gives great results. Also PS5 gaming is very nice, very sharp image, no bad ghosting visible. But still – I’m not 100% happy:D But that is not the fault of the M32U. It’s mainly 2 things
– I still have the feeling 32 inch is too big for me, I like the 27 inch form factor
– But I mainly think 32 could be “too big”, because the M32U definitely gets a lot hotter than the BenQ EX2710Q, primarily on the back. I think this is probably “natural” for 32inch displays(?). Also knowing that I “use more power than I would actually need” bugs me a bit (if I would be using a 27 inch display) —> the unit does not get “uncomfortably hot” – it’s just the fact that the BenQ before did not get hot, at all, in comparison
– I also miss the speakers on the BenQ, though this is also not the M32U’s fault
So the M32U has kept all its promises so far.
If the M32U would be available as 27 inch model with less power consumption / heat and with the BenQ speakers, I would probably be in monitor heaven π
The question is: could the EX3210U come closer to my wishes? I assume probably not? Only the speakers would be better, but power consumption and general heat production would probably be comparable to the M32U?
March 11, 2022 at 4:29 pm #67820PCM2I assume it’s not possible to move slightly further back from the screen? The EX3210U will naturally share those constraints, though it has DC power and therefore has an external ‘power brick’. It might mean it is slightly less warm to the touch, though the backlight is still relatively large and somewhat ‘power hungry’ (as expected for a larger screen). It seems what you really want is the EX2710U, but it’s unfortunately not available yet and has just been ‘revealed’ on some BenQ regional product pages.
March 11, 2022 at 9:06 pm #67821dave5634Hey PCM2,
thank you for your response, again π
No not really possible to move further back on my current desk π But I’m usually more than an arm length away from the display.
Just to be clear: The M32U is not uncomfortably hot. There is nothing “wrong” with this device, I’m quite sure about that.
And from a usability perspective, the M32U fulfills everything I need right now. I even added a Dell AC511 sound bar and put it on the bottom of the M32U with a double-sided adhesive tape, which works perfectly for now.
I will continue my journey with the M32U for now. But I’ll probably be back as soon as I feel the urge of upgrading, again π
