      Hi,

Please could you recommend monitors that are:

4k 27″ matte flatscreen, with speakers.
Budget: up to £300 cash, or +£100 Amazon credit that I have.

The best I’ve found is this, which seems decent: Dell S2722QC

        Usage:

      Gaming – 4k PS5
      Work – 1080p Windows laptop
      Personal – 2560×1664 Macbook Air M3, 2024

Features wishlist (I appreciate it won’t possible to have everything):

      – Compliant with latest HDCP
      – height-adjustable
      – flicker-free
      – low blue light mode (or similar) available
      – rotate screen both -/+90°
      – front-facing speakers
      – 3 ports (for seamless switching b/w gaming, work, personal)
      – I think I’m okay with 60Hz (little to no competitive and/or online multiplayer play so I don’t think there’ll be considerable benefit paying much extra for higher Hz, even though I am looking to upgrade my gaming experience now that I have a PS5)
      – control monitor speakers from connected device (I don’t know if this is possible)

My current monitor is the 1440p Benq GW2765ht, suggested by the PCM admin in 2016, which continues to serve me well.
The most notable inconveniences with it have been:
      – HDCP preventing highest-definition playing on Amazon (despite upgrading HDMI cable and laptop being compliant)
      – screen rotates 90° in one direction but not the other – so I sometimes couldn’t be my laziest self comfortably watching films or playing games on my side in bed.
      – can’t control speakers volume from device, so I have to go to the monitor to do this – every time for PS4 / sometimes for laptop. Yes, I can control the content volume through laptop. But there is no way to control any volume on PS4.

        Hi bm98 and welcome,

I’m glad the GW2765HT has served you well for all that time. 🙂

Given your requirements I think the S2722QC would be an excellent option and I wouldn’t suggest one above that. It should largely “feel” like a 4K version of your current monitor in many respects, making it quite familiar but still like an upgrade. As far as I’m aware the only way to control the volume on monitor speakers would be via the OSD or with software on a computer that can control that. Or with the media controls to control at a software level on a computer – I’m not familiar enough with the PS5 to know if it has something similar.

If the S2722QC is unavailable when I’m ready to buy, what might be the next best monitor within my budget?

Thanks for the audio tip. I’ll check thoroughly for my new monitor and devices.

The Philips 288E2UAE would also be worth considering, but it seems difficult to find currently (possibly discontinued). Perhaps a better option to consider is the BenQ PD2705U which is one of our recommended monitors for photo editing – but is a good all-rounder as well.
