I just bought my first ‘gaming’ monitor (Aorus FI32U). It’s the first monitor I’ve bought in over a decade (previous was a 24″ 1080P HP IPS, and before that a 24″ Dell CRT).

The on-line manual is good for little other than telling me how to select various modes – but I don’t know when / why I might want to use those. sRGB looks great to me – but I’ve read that it’s not great for games. “Standard” does something… not sure what. Other modes include VS, RTS, FPS, movie and reader. I can guess that FPS is for shooters and movie/reader seem self explanatory – what I’m clueless about is what they actually do? Like – what am I giving up, and what am I gaining by selecting one mode over a different one?

I feel naïve just asking the question as when I peruse boards people seem to know what they’re talking about – but are not always forthcoming with answers. Is it something different for each manufacturer – or is there a ‘general guide’ or cheat-sheet I can use to know what I’m supposed to know when choosing among the various modes?

        Hi BlackFive,

This is exactly why I spend considerable time and effort producing ‘OSD videos’ which run through the entire menu system. Some manufacturers produce even less informative manuals than Gigabyte. In general you should keep the monitor set to its ‘Standard’ preset, or depending on model the most flexible one. Which may be called ‘Custom’, ‘User’, ‘Custom Color’ or sometimes numbered ‘Gamer’ presets depending on model. You should take a look at our OSD video (below) for the Gigabyte AORUS FI27Q-X, as that is similar to the system of the FI32U. Also note how we set things up in the calibration section of the review and the settings we focus on there.

P.S. Once you’ve got everything set up, feel free to post your thoughts on the FI32U in an appropriate thread (example).

Hey – thanks very much! The video above is exactly what I was looking for. I think I will go back and make sure I am on “standard”.

I have some thoughts – and problems experienced – with this monitor. I’m a neophyte, but perhaps folks will find my observations as a user beneficial.

FYI – looks like your link to the FI32U is to your article, but is not a forum thread -so I will add my thoughts to the “example” thread which relates to 32s. (If not the FI32U specifically).

Glad the video was helpful. And I did mean for you to post on the thread that you’ve kindly posted on, sorry for the ambiguous wording. But I actually formed a new thread as I think it’s best to split your feedback off into its own thread so it’s easier for others to see. And add their own impressions for that and similar models. 😀
